Become a Better
Leader

The CEO of any company has the unique charter of managing three cohorts of individuals, The Employees, Customers and Shareholders of the business.  Each group in their own right is relying on the leadership and confidence of the CEO to guide the business to consistent growth, innovation and profitability.   So when the CEO seeks advice outside of their advisory board, who can they turn to?  As the old adage goes, “Its lonely at the top.”  This is where the CEO coach steps in.

The Process

The role of the CEO coach is to not only coach the leader, but to focus on the strategic goals of the entire organization.  The coach holds the CEO and Senior leaders accountable to achieving the revenue, profitability and innovation goals of the business as well as guiding the CEO in their quest to create a healthy, productive and positive culture throughout the entire organization.

The process begins with a consultation leading to an exercise to define the mission, vision, and values of the company,  create a cadence through weekly coaching calls, strategic guiding sessions, and stay on track with quarterly guiding sessions.

The Process Step One

1

Consultation

Our first step is to conduct a free consultation to determine if coaching is right for you.  In this intake meeting, we will assess your company, industry, communication style, finance, sales and marketing, employee morale and any other factors you feel are relevant to a coaching relationship.  We will provide you with our honest assessment of your current situation and will determine if we can help you with coaching.

2

Mission,Vission and Values

The Scaffolding of any business is its Mission, Vision, and Values.   Any decisions from strategic to financial and hiring to firing need to align with this scaffolding.

Mission answers the question, “Why do we exist and who do we exist for?”

Vision answers the question, “What does success look like?”

Values are a set of behaviors that we all adhere to in order to support our Mission and Vision.

3

Weekly Coaching Calls

Our weekly coaching calls are the foundation of the CEO coaching practice.  Conducted via video we emphasize continual forward momentum by leveraging our CEO experience with our proven methodology to accelerate your companies growth while achieving your profitability goals.  While we won’t create your goals, we will certainly assist you in gaining clarity of what you want to achieve and will help you create attainable and measurable goals to turn your vision into realty.

4

Annual Strategic Planning Sessions

Your Annual strategic planning session is an opportunity to have multiple executives and managers in a room to make important decisions about the future of the organization. During this meeting, you’ll lead the group through a brainstorm on strategies for achieving your organizational goals. Then, you’ll evaluate these strategies by impact and feasibility, and select which strategies will be included in the upcoming annual strategic plan.

5

Quarterly Calibration Sessions

Your quarterly calibration sessions are conducted to evaluate how you and your team are performing relative to the Annual strategic plan. Any adjustments or pivots necessary will be discussed and decided in these meetings.  Once these decisions are made, the appropriate changes will be made to the Annual Strategic Plan.

why you should

Let me coach you

All great performers have a coach. Look around – professional athletes, public figures, musicians and leaders.  We all operate with blind spots.   I will ask the hard questions to reveal those blind spots.  We will have those candid conversations you cannot have with the board, and especially with your second line. You get a partner who you can be open with; one who is going to be sensitive, and yet objective; honest, and yet respectful.  I have been there and done that.  Lets get results together!

PEOPLE

First Who, Then What—get the right people on the bus—is a concept developed in the book Good to Great. By Jim Collins. Those who build great organizations make sure they have the right people on the bus and the right people in the key seats before they figure out where to drive the bus. They always think first about who and then about what. When facing chaos and uncertainty, and you cannot possibly predict what's coming around the corner, your best "strategy" is to have a busload of people who can adapt to and perform brilliantly no matter what comes next. Great vision without great people is irrelevant.

STRATEGY

Put simply, Business strategy is a clear set of plans, actions and goals that outlines how a business will compete in a particular market, or markets, with a product or number of products or services. The business strategy always aligns with the Mission, Vision and Values of the organization.

EXECUTION

“Execution is a systematic process of rigorously discussing hows and whats, questioning, tenaciously following through, and ensuring accountability.”, Larry Bossidy on Execution Execution is what ties together a company’s People and Strategy. It emcopasses all of the companies goals and ensures there is an efficient process to achieve those goals. Without execution, aspirations become merely dreams and results are evasive. The job of the business leader is to execute - bottom line! If you are not executing, your company is merely a collection of people and ideas operating independently without the benefit of the collective whole.

CASH

Cash is the most critical part of the business equation. Without it, nothing in business exists. Cash can come from many different sources including cash flow from profits, financing or debt from investors, acceleration of customer payments, supplier financing or numerous other creative ways of creating cash flow. A business leader can and should look at cash separately than profit. Cash is certainly the vehicle that keeps the company alive until a company is cash flow positive however, it is also the vehicle that spurs accelerated growth when investing back into the business.

hear from industry leaders

I have had the pleasure of working with Ladd Richland over the last several years and I acknowledge Ladd as a highly insightful and knowledgeable transformational agent who has helped guide our firm through our most challenging and successful times.
Our offering has the complexities of high-end consulting assignments, and Ladd’s knowledge and insight have been invaluable in identifying and closing significant opportunities. I’ve worked with other advisors and am part of a small business round table group… having Ladd’s advice is very different… someone who has actually built, led, and sold a business successfully.
I’m a copious notetaker and Ladd’s advice is “book worthy”. What I captured during my sessions with Ladd has amounted to a “how-to” or “what now” reference guide.

I have been incredibly blessed to have many coaches over my career and none of them have been more valuable to my recruiting business than Ladd Richland. Following his input, our company made a huge pivot this year that was risky and necessary. That pivot not only saved our growth issue but accelerated it to all new heights. We have more than 5X our revenue since working with Ladd and we expect to 10X next year! In addition to his acute business knowledge and expertise, he is amazing to work with. I truly look forward to our calls. They are fun and exciting and even though it's not always what I want to hear... it's what I need to hear to elevate myself and our company. He is much more than a coach or mentor; he is someone who truly cares about you and has your best interest at heart. Above all, he is a great friend. If you are considering a coach to think deeply on situations or problems, analyze decision making, or you're just trying to innovate for the future... you WILL NOT go wrong working with Ladd. You can trust me on that 100%

He recognized that we needed to re-evaluate our Mission, Vision and Values, and needed to define a set of behaviors that would propel us into the future as a market leader. Through a series of interviews, exercises and coaching sessions, I am pleased to say we are well on our way to transforming our company into a polymer manufacturer with an extremely bright future with unlimited product lines. He helped us “open our eyes” and recognize that our fields of gold were in our own backyard. We are so pleased with the level of strategy that he brings, that we have added him to our advisory board and we continue to use his coaching services for several of our management employees. His fresh perspective has allowed us to “unlock” our potential and has created a level of enthusiasm at Command that I can only compare to our founding years.
